Children who do not receive proper nutrition risk inadequate physical and mental growth. To insure children have access to nutrition that is essential to their development, Guilford Child Development provides more than 1,900 nourishing meals to children in each of its 13 childcare centers, and provides licensed childcare centers and family childcare home providers with nutrition education and financial reimbursement for part of the cost of meals served to children in their care.
Catering for Kids
If kids are hungry, they can’t learn. So, when they ask, “When are we going to eat?” we’re ready. To us, food is serious business, and by serving healthy and culturally diverse foods, we are teaching children early on about good eating habits, making good choices, and maintaining healthy lifestyles.
Our Catering for Kids program delivers over 1,900 nutritious breakfasts and lunches daily to children in our childcare centers, as well as several nonaffiliated centers throughout Guilford and Randolph Counties. All meals are prepared and delivered by highly trained kitchen staff.
What can I expect from the Catering for Kids program?
- Monthly menus, including special diet substitutions for children with special medical conditions
- Menus that include culturally diverse foods and introduce the children to a variety of foods in a family-style setting
- Nutritious meals that meet the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements to the Head Start/Early Head Start Program centers and non-affiliated centers in the greater Guilford County area.
- For Head Start/Early Head Start, nutritionists monitor meal patterns and portions, and counsel parents on nutrition as needed.
