A
United Way Community Partner
For 40 years, Guilford Child Development (GCD) has served
young children and families in Guilford County, working
in collaboration with numerous community organizations
to maximize local, state and federal funding. Through
four distinct yet supportive programs, we provide services
that are focused on supporting individuals, families and
communities as they face life challenges.
The Head Start/ Early Head Start Program operates twelve
child development centers in Guilford County serving over
1000 young children and their families. All centers meet
high standards for program quality, facilities and ratio
of children to caregivers. GCD operates four of eight
full day full year centers in Guilford County accredited
by the National Association for the Education of Young
Children. Head Start services focus on preparing children
to succeed in school and are based on the child’s
developmental readiness. Early Head Start provides services
to expectant women, infants and toddlers.
Regional Child Care Resources and Referral (RCCR&R)
focuses on quality child care and is the lead agency for
a three county regional Child Care Resource and Referral
program. RCCR&R provides assistance to working parents
seeking affordable accessible quality care as well as
training and technical assistance to providers and potential
providers. RCCR&R administers the statewide Child
and Adult Care Food Program.
Nurse Family Partnership Program provides intensive nurse
home visitation services to low-income, first-time mothers
in partnership with the Guilford County Department of
Public Health. The program is being replicated nationally
after receiving recognition for success over the past
25 years in greatly improving access to quality prenatal
and postpartum services.
The Catering for
Kids program has been addressing the need for low-cost, nutritious
meals in child care settings in Guilford County for more
than 20 years. Catering for Kids consistently maintains sanitation grades
above 98%.
