Head Start
provides a learning environment that helps children develop
socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally.
This is accomplished through an individualized and developmentally
appropriate approach for each child. Our goal is to meet
the quality guidelines described by Head Start Performance
Standards, the North Carolina Child Day Care Licensing
Law and the National Association for the Education of
Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation criteria.
The
curriculum is designed to ensure that the children are
skilled in speaking and understanding, phonics, book knowledge
and appreciation, print awareness and concepts, and early
writing and alphabet knowledge. Each child's progress
is monitored throughout the school year using Galileo,
a web-based program that measures outcomes in eight domain
areas. Field trips are provided to enhance the educational
experience.
Children have access to classroom computers. Computer
activities are designed to stimulate early literacy and
improve math and science skills. Centers are connected
to the Internet.
