A safe pregnancy
and a good start for the new baby begin well before birth.
Nurse-Family Partnership prepares mothers-to-be for this
exciting and frightening time.
In this program, a registered nurse visits
the soon to be mom to talk about what to expect during pregnancy,
delivery and the first few months of the newborn’s
life. The goal of the program is not only to teach women
about pregnancy and child care, but to let them know where
to turn for additional help—such as prenatal care.
Nurse-Family Partnership nurses also strive to help moms
become more self-reliant and encourage them to achieve
personal goals such as more education.
If you would like to sign up for Nurse-Family Partnership,
ask The Guilford County Health Department, YWCA or Office
of Juvenile Justice to refer you.
Another part of Nurse-Family Partnership is Fathers Strengthening
Families. This program helps biological fathers become
more involved with their children. We know that single
parents aren’t always going to be a part of each
other’s lives, but they will always be a parent of
their child. A male outreach coordinator meets with the
father on a regular basis to talk about ways to be a part
of his child’s life. Fathers are also invited to
a monthly support group of other single dads.
